Internship

An internship at the FES Office for Regional Cooperation in Singapore offers the possibility to experience and support the work of a political foundation. FES is an independent, non-governmental organization which is committed to the values of social democracy and international cooperation. FES contributes to this purpose from Singapore with several programs, which are accomplished with local partners and organizations. The programs are: (Inter-) regional dialogue ASEM, ASEAN, SAARC; Regional Trade Union Program; National Program Cambodia.

Internships - duration and working areas

FES offers internships to advanced students in Political Science, Social Science, Economics, or related studies, who want to experience the working environment of a political foundation in its office in Singapore. Besides supporting the FES staff in research, workshop and conference organization, writing of reports as well as other activities related to the programs, it is possible to identify an area of particular interest. The duration of an internship should not be less than two months. FES cannot offer any financial compensation for any expenses during the period of the internship. The working language is English, but skills in other Asian languages are of advantage. Singapore is a cultural experience apart from that to be had in Europe, even though the living conditions are comparable. You should always be open-minded to the surroundings, the culture and be able to adapt to a certain degree. Once the internship is confirmed, FES will provide you with more detailed information.

Application

In order to arrange a possible assignment, applications (to be written in English) should be submitted well in advance of the projected start date of the internship. The following items have to be included:

  • Motivation: explain your interest and expectations, including the start date and proposed length of your planned internship
  • Statement: indicate what area of the FES´s work you are especially interested in
  • Curriculum Vitae.

Please send your application and the required documents by email to Ms. Dr. Stefanie Elies at stefanie.elies[at]fes-asia.org

Preparations

Applications for visa have to follow the regulations of the Government of Singapore as stipulated by its Ministry of Manpower. Our FES Office for Regional Cooperation in Asia can also give you further information on the regulations and requirements. There are several possibilities, but most interns rent a room for SGD 800 to 1.000 per month. The room is usually equipped with air conditioner, bed, wardrobe, desk as well as internet access (LAN) and you will mostly find a common kitchen. You may find a pool and gym in condominiums. FES as well as current interns can assist with finding a place to stay. For more information and recommendations you can ask FES staff and current interns in the Singapore office at any time.
